Windows 7: How To Pin A Drive To the Taskbar

9/30/2010 | By Casmir

Pinning your most frequently accessed program or file to the taskbar would save you the time of browsing to locate it. As far as i know, You can simple drag your installed programs to the taskbar, But not all the build-in programs or tools that came with your Operating System that can be drag and drop to the taskbar. Dragging a hard disk drive icon to the taskbar won't work!

To do this follow the steps below...

1. Create a new blank text document and change the extension from .txt to .exe with any name of your choice. A text document can be created by right clicking inside a folder or on your desktop and select New>>>Text Document, Or just open Notepad and save it. The icon should now look like the image below...

.txt to .exe

Note: If you are not able to change a file extension on your computer, Go to Folder Options and Folder Options

2. Right click on the .exe file you've created and choose Pin To Taskbar or simple drag and drop it to the Taskbar.

3. Now that the file has been pinned to the Taskbar, Right click on it>>>>Right click again on it's name (See image below) and click Properties.
